FAQ > Spas/Hot Tubs > How do I start my spa with Bromine?
Fresh water fill up:
- Add recommended amount of Stain & Scale inhibitor while filling.
- Check the Calcium Hardness and increase if needed (200-500)ppm. To increase use Calcium Hardness Increaser.
- With a test strip check the Alkalinity.(80-120)ppm.
Adjust accordingly with * Alkalinity Increaser or Decreaser using pH Decreaser. In 15 minute increments a little at a time, test in between using a new test strip each time an adjustment is made.
Circulate on high for the duration. - Now test the pH with a new test strip. (7.4-7.8 range)
Adjust accordingly with pH Increaser or pH Decreaser as needed. Circulate on high adjusting in 15 minute increments, a little at a time until balanced, according to new test strip. - Sanitize with Bromine. (3-10ppm average range)
Fill the floater with tablets and set as directed. It will need a couple of days to reach correct level. In order to achieve instant sanitization use Bromine Concentrate as directed for sanitizing.
Initially get it up to about 10 ppm and let it fall down to about 3-5ppm on it's own. - Oxidize: Using Non Chlorine Shock on about the 3rd day, add the recommended amount, and then once or twice weekly according to spa use. Uncover the spa, turn the jets on high (air jets can be off) and scatter the shock into the spa. Run for 15-20 minutes. Do not use the spa during this period as toxins are released into the air and should not be inhaled.
***Check owner's manual Re: spa treatment as some treatments may not be ok for all spas.***
