Make sure not to use a razor blade or windex.  The will scratch your glass.  What you need to use is a product that is made for cleaning the glass on a gas stove or fireplace.  Some people call it white off or something similar.  

These type of products will actually help remove the white film that develops over time on the glass.  That white film is actually mineral build up.  One way to help prevent that type of build up is to make sure the moister on you glass is completely gone before you shut the fireplace/stove off.
